Project aims to increase tourism in Bulgaria, Romania
A new initiative entitled Bulgarian-Romanian research centre for steady tourism aims to integrate the potential of both countries to maximise investment opportunities, which may interest those looking to invest in property in the eastern European countries.
The project will be part-financed by the European commission, which is providing 120,332 euros in investment, while the programme will be undertaken by the International College.
The focus will be on non-seaside areas, with the aim of increasing enterprises such as alternative tourism, with plans for online reservations for eco-hotels and holidays.
Owners of smaller, remote regional guest houses will receive special support to increase tourism and aid the local economy.
The Romanian economy currently relies heavily on agriculture, which accounts for a third of the workforce, while 45% of Romanians live in rural areas.
Recently, a scheme dubbed PHARE was developed in order to increase trans-border co-operation between Romania and neighbouring Bulgaria and encourage academic and business potential.
