Properties in French Alps 'becoming more popular'

Properties in the French Alps are becoming increasingly sought-after among many overseas buyers, according to experts.

Investors in Property stated that although Geneva was traditionally a popular area among those wanting to buy close to the Alps, places such as Grenoble were now attracting more interest.

This was largely attributed to the expensive prices in many areas, such as Chamonix and other places within an hour of Geneva.

Simon Malster, managing director of Investors in Property, commented: "Grenoble is becoming more popular and there is more interest being shown perhaps in some of the more outlying areas."

He added that many of the properties were being bought for rental purposes, mainly because this was one of the planning conditions for building in the region.

According to Assetz International, there was a 78 per cent increase in demand for French property in 2005.
