Property exhibition attracts thousands

A major overseas property exhibition in Manchester attracted more than 8,000 visitors, it has been confirmed.

Organisers of A Place in the Sun Live, an event affiliated with the popular Channel 4 programme, said 8,029 people expressed interest in buying a holiday home or investment property abroad.

Brooklands Group added that most people were found to be willing to spend an average of £147,000 on their ideal property.

Chief executive Darren Styles said this showed that demand for a foreign residence is still strong despite the credit crunch and the possibility of a worldwide recession.

He commented: "It's a fantastic start to the 2008 UK show calendar and augurs well for our return to London at the end of April."

According to research by A Place in the Sun magazine, Spain is currently the most popular overseas property market among British investors.

However, many emerging markets such as Turkey were found to be attracting greater levels of interest.
