Property 'should meet the needs of buyers'

Second home buyers have been advised to take their reasons for purchasing a property into account when picking their new home.

Legal expert Douglas Gray said that many people dream about buying a foreign property either for investment purposes or for personal use.

However, he stated that regardless of their reasons for making such a purchase, prospective buyers need to determine their wants and needs in advance.

Writing in the Star, he urged people to consider issues such as how easy it is to access their chosen location, as well as what type of weather it has.

Accessibility could be a key issue for rental investors in particular, as they need to be in a location which is convenient to reach.

Furthermore, the weather can dictate the length of the holiday season in a certain country, therefore affecting how much rental demand there is likely to be.

Mr Gray commented: "There are many examples of [people] who have enhanced their quality of life immensely through sound decision-making before buying."

The Association of International Property Professionals revealed that British buyers spend £24 billion on property abroad last year.
