Qatar and Croatia to link up on tourism
Qatar and Croatia are planning to forge closer ties that will see the nations launch innovative new tourism projects.
A senior official from the Croatian foreign ministry has met with the Qatari chamber of commerce and industry (QCCI) to discuss ways in which the countries can cooperate more closely.
David Gilovic, from the Croatian international trade department, travelled to Riyadh to boost mutual ties between the private sectors in his country and Qatar and improve bilateral trade links.
Discussions about possible cooperation on tourism projects took place at the meeting between Mr Gilovic and QCCI treasurer, Mohamed Ahmed Tawar Al Kuwari.
The Croatian official has invited Qatari investors to look at launching tourism initiatives in the country, as Croatia upgrades its standards to meet with EU regulations.
Croatia, which has a population of around 5 million, is currently preparing to join the European Union in 2009 and plans to promote its cities and resorts, such as Zagreb and Split, as major tourist destinations. The country currently welcomes around 10 million tourists each year.
