Quality of living in UAE named as being among best in Middle East

The quality of living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been highlighted by a major survey as being among the best in the Middle East, with standards of health and sanitation earmarked for particular praise.

Mercer Human Resource Consulting's 2007 Worldwide Quality of Living Survey found that although the top five cities in the world for health and sanitation are located mainly in North America, the UAE has made progress in improving this aspect of living, thanks to large amounts of investment.

Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai share 58th place for provisions for health and cleanliness - higher than London or Prague.

Slagin Parakatil, senior researcher at Mercer, remarked: "Medical provision in the Middle East, especially the United Arab Emirates, has ... benefited from substantial government investment."

The survey also revealed that for the overall quality standard of living, Zurich and Geneva finished top, while Baghdad was voted "the world's least-enticing city for expatriates".
