Queen opens St Pancras station
The newly-renovated St Pancras station in London has been officially opened by the Queen.
Speaking at a visit to the revamped transport hub, Her Majesty offered her "warmest congratulations" to those involved in the project.
The station will now serve as the UK terminus for Eurostar's Channel Tunnel service, cutting about 20 minutes off the overall journey time.
People travelling to mainland Europe will be able to reach Paris in less than two hours and 15 minutes as soon as the high-speed rail link opens to the public later this month.
Commenting on the service, the Queen said: "People across the whole of Britain are suddenly quite a bit closer to Europe.
Her Majesty added that the improved transport connections would make a "real difference" to the lives of those travelling between the two countries.
The new rail link could have a positive impact on foreign investment in France, as it is already a highly popular location among British second home buyers.
