Railways 'appeal to green travellers'
Environmental concerns are prompting many people to travel on trains instead of by air, according to experts.
Rail Europe stated that worries over the carbon emissions generated by aircraft had led to some to look at alternative forms of transport.
The organisation said that trains were a much more eco-friendly mode of conveyance that offered a number of other benefits as well.
For example, it highlighted the lack of charges for transporting luggage, as well as the shorter check-in times.
In addition, the body said that trains tended to put passengers down in the centre of a town or city, whereas airport were often based on the periphery.
A spokesperson commented: "If you're going from London to Paris, you board in the centre of London and arrive in the centre of Paris."
This comes shortly after Eurostar launched a new rail link between the two cities that takes just two hours and 15 minutes to reach its destination.
