Ras Al-Khaimah 'to be boosted by 120-acre theme park'

Plans for a 120-acre theme park and entertainment complex in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) could provide a major boost to the local infrastructure and economy, according to new claims from the developers behind the scheme.

A model of the AED 850 million (£116 million) development was unveiled earlier this week at Manar Mall by a joint venture comprising the RAK Investment Authority and Polo Amusement Park, an Indian company.

The WOW RAK amusement complex a will feature the world's tallest man-made waterfall, a water park, a large shopping mall and extensive entertainment facilities, with a capacity of 15,000 people per day, the Gulf News website reports.

Balwant Singh, managing director and chief executive officer of the Polo RAK joint venture, remarked: "WOW RAK theme park ... will be an epicentre for entertainment, leisure and recreation by making available many unique attractions for the first time in the region."

The water park is scheduled for completion in May 2008, with the rest of the complex to follow.

Elsewhere in the UAE, a large-scale collection of amusement parks is being built to rival the likes of Disneyworld.

Entitled Dubailand, it is hoped that the around 200,000 people visit Dubai daily after the completion of the next phases.
