Ras-al Khaimah can capitalise on Dubai's success
"Arab Emirate Ras al-Khaimah is hoping to use its proximity to Dubai to attract 50 billion dirhams (~£7 billion) of investment in the next 2 years to develop industry and tourism.
According to experts, Ras al-Khaimah is in the ideal position to capitalise on the growing popularity of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) because it has attractions its neighbours are lacking.
Of the £2.4 billion worth of investment along Ras al-Khaimah, Blair Hagkull of Jones Lang LaSalle said: "The level of investment and the quality of investors they have attracted is notable.
"It is key for them to be able to sell their differentiation - Ras al-Khaimah has things the rest of the UAE doesn't have, such as mountains."
Costas Verginis of Deloitte & Touche added that Dubai, which attracts 6 million visitors each year, had "already done the hard work" and that its near neighbour would be able to capitalise on its low costs to attract some of that number to Ras al-Khaimah.
The Emirate intends to quadruple the number of tourists it attracts to 100,000 by 2010.
