Rental property owners 'should be green'

Owners of rental accommodation abroad could benefit from making their properties more environmentally-friendly, it has been advised.

Trips Worldwide stated that entire travel industry was leaning towards being more ethical and green in response to consumer demand.

John Faithfull, product manager at Trips Worldwide, commented: "The whole industry is at least nodding its hat to the responsible travel ethic at the moment."

He added that companies had to be seen to be green, regardless of whether they sincerely believed in these issues.

Furthermore, the firm said that many hotels highlighted their ethical credentials on their website.

This would give consumers the chance to make decisions responsibly based on issues such as how they generate energy and where they source materials, produce and employees.

According to the Office for National Statistics, more than 68 million people travelled abroad in the year to June 2007.
