'Roads packed' during Spain's holiday period

Spain is seeing a high number of people take to its roads during the August holiday, according to the latest figures released.

The General Traffic Directorate in the country stated that between 3pm last Tuesday and midnight on Wednesday, 3.4 million journeys by car took place, reports Homes Worldwide.

Moreover, the highest concentration of traffic was on roads leading to popular resorts and regions such as the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol.

Additionally, a high percentage of the traffic was heading from Madrid and Seville to other coastal areas, including Murcia and Valencia.

A higher number of officials were deployed, such as traffic technicians, to ensure the smooth running of the roads for holidaymakers, the publication added.

A number of businesses in Spain shut down for the hot August period.

In related news, contracts have been signed by Aeromur SA in order to construct a new airport in Murcia, hopefully boosting the local economy.
