Romanian airports 'grow in popularity'

Expansions on the local market have resulted in an increased number of traffic at Romanian airports, according to reports.

Regional officials at airports in the country stated that traffic levels are predicted to rise by 50% by the end of the year and stand at double the figures of 2005, reports zf.ro.

Such increases have been a result of integration into the European Union and more liberal business on the domestic setting, the publication added.

Overall, the number of passengers passing through airports in Romania was 1.4 million in the first quarter of the year, the reports suggested.

Both Bucharest and regional airports witnessed good results over the last quarter, representatives stated.

"Passenger traffic was considerably bolstered by the region's economic development and by new investors," said officals at the Timisoara airport Traian Vuia.

In related news, the phone company Nokia recently won a contract to invest on the Romanian market in Cluj.
