Romanian property values 'on the rise'

Property values in Romania are continuing to rise at a fast pace, according to an investor in the country.

Anthony Raftopol, an American lawyer who moved to Romania in the 1990s, said that prices had "exploded", potentially making it a good option for foreign investors.

Speaking to the New York Times, he stated that the economy was growing fast, leading to a surge in Romania's property market.

However, he added that demand was currently outstripping the supply of available properties, leading to developers submitting plans to build new homes.

Mr Raftopol predicted: "The boom in prices should continue for a decade."

He added that Bucharest in particular had become a popular place for foreign investors, many of whom had come from countries such as Germany, Austria and the UK.

According to the American Automobile Association, Romania saw a seven-fold increase in the number of bookings from US tourists during summer this year.
