Russian tourists head for Turkey

Turkey is proving to be particularly popular with holidaymakers from Russia, it has been revealed.

According to figures cited by Business New Europe, more and more Russian consumers are choosing to take breaks overseas.

European countries were found to be the main hotspots of activity, with Turkey for example attracting nearly 2 million visitors last year.

This accounts for more than a fifth of the overall number of Russians heading abroad in 2007.

The figures will be welcome reading for owners of buy-to-let accommodation in Turkey, as they further reaffirm the country's status as a leading holiday destination.

Indeed, analysts in the UK have recently flagged it up as an increasingly popular destination among British leisure travellers.

For example, the Association of British Travel Agents has found that the number of summer bookings for trips to Turkey has gone up by 20% this year.
