Ryanair expands into Spain
Low-cost airline Ryanair has announced that it is to open up a new base at a major Spanish airport.
The carrier will begin operating its new facility in Barcelona in October, a move which will enable it to offer more flights to the city.
Ryanair will roll out services from places such as Birmingham, Paris and Dublin, therefore boosting access to Barcelona for people across Europe.
In addition, this should make Spain even more affordable for leisure travellers and overseas property investors.
Michael O'Leary, chief executive of the airline, commented: "Ryanair will now develop the region's massive untapped potential by giving the tourism industry year-round low fare access to Europe's largest cities."
The carrier is also planning to invest millions of pounds in new aircraft and the creation of extra jobs at the airport.
This comes after a poll by Teletext Holidays found that Barcelona was widely considered as the most romantic city in the world by 46 per cent of those polled.
