Ryanair launches new flights from Scotland

Budget airline Ryanair has announced that it is to launch new flights to mainland Europe from Scotland.

The carrier will offer passage from Edinburgh Airport to places including the popular Spanish city of Alicante from early 2008.

Services to Marseille in France and the Italian city of Pisa will also be launched at the same time.

The new flights will help to open up these markets to business and leisure travellers in Scotland, leading to greater demand for temporary accommodation.

This means that owners of holiday homes in these countries will be likely to see higher rental returns next year.

Commenting on the move, Edinburgh Airport's managing director David Johnston said: "Ryanair's expansion adds further choice and frequency for passengers."

He added that it was currently investing in upgrading its facilities in order to make sure it could handle the high levels of demand.

Earlier this month, Ryanair announced that from April 2008, it would offer more services between Dublin and three French airports.
