Southern Italy attracts interest from investors
Overseas property buyers are increasingly looking at houses in the south of Italy, according to experts.
Legal firm Giambrone & Law stated that although traditional markets such as Tuscany and Umbria remained popular investment spots, many people were looking at less-established areas as well.
Gabriele Giambrone, senior partner at the company, said there had been an "explosion of interest" in the southern Italy in particular.
Commenting on its growing appeal, he remarked: "Areas such as Calabria, Puglia and Sicily are attracting a mixture of shrewd second home buyers and investors."
Mr Giambrone said people were beginning to recognise the opportunities that were being created in the south of the country, as it offered lifestyle benefits and good investment potential.
He added that areas such as Calabria were "fast becoming the new Algarve" of the Mediterranean.
This follows a study by HolidayLettings.co.uk which named Italy as one of the most popular markets among British holiday home buyers.
