Spain 'could get golf boost in 2009'
A major new golf tournament could boost the tourism and property markets in southern Spain next year, it has emerged.
Last week, the Valderrama course on the Costa del Sol hosted the Volvo Masters for the final time, but a new event is believed to already be in the pipeline for the club.
According to the Times, an unidentified sponsor has offered £5 million in prize money for a golf tournament which would take place at Valderrama from October 29th to November 1st 2009.
Commenting on the developments, a source at Valderrama said: "We have to move fast to bring all this off. Time is pressing."
The Costa del Sol contains some of Europe's most prestigious golf resorts, with tourists from around the world travelling to the region to spend time on the greens and fairways.
As one Spain's most famous courses, Valderrama hosted the Ryder Cup in 1997.
