Spain is a hotspot for Britons
Spain is maintaining its position as one of the world's most popular holiday destinations, new figures have revealed.
Official statistics revealed during 2006, the European country was visited by more people from Wales than any other location, reports the Western Mail.
Spain attracted about half of the 1.6 million people who flew abroad from Cardiff Airport during the 12-month period.
Figures also highlighted an increase in the popularity of scheduled flights, which was attributed to more people choosing to book their holiday online.
Commenting on the findings, Peter Phillips from Cardiff Airport said: "Low-cost airlines are going further now.
"When they started off, they were only going to Paris and Amsterdam."
The popularity of Spain as a holiday destination could account for its current status as a hotspot for overseas property investors.
Holiday-Rentals recently revealed that a third of all British-owned properties in Europe are located in the country.
