Spain 'offers lower fuel prices'

Motorists from the UK could find Spain an affordable place to visit, new figures have revealed.

According to the Post Office, the country currently offers the cheapest diesel and unleaded prices in the eurozone.

Research by the organisation showed that Spanish petrol prices are almost a third cheaper than those in places such as Belgium and the Netherlands.

In addition, the study found that Spain is also the cheapest country in the eurozone in which to hire a car.

Therefore, it could be a good-value destination for people who are considering taking a motoring holiday overseas.

Commenting on the findings, the Post Office said: "Spain is the cheapest destination by a wide margin.

"At 94p for a litre of diesel, it is 7% cheaper than its nearest rival Austria but 26 per cent lower than the UK."

The organisation added that fuel prices in Britain are currently among the highest in Europe, as petrol is 20% more expensive than it was this time last year.

This comes after the Association of British Travel Agents said rising fuel prices are likely to impact on the cost of flying abroad.
