Spain tops overseas property survey

Spain was found to be the most popular location in a survey which claims to be the biggest study of overseas property demand ever undertaken.

Conducted by real estate portal Global edge, the research analysed 1.4 million English-language searches for overseas destinations performed on Google during September this year.

The study discovered that Spain was the most searched-for country among English-speaking internet users, accounting for 27.9% of the total search volume.

Ashley Rigg, managing director at Global edge, said the findings indicate that previous claims about the decline of the Spanish property market are inaccurate.

"These results suggest Spanish property is considerably more popular than previously thought," he commented.

France was found to be the second most popular country, with 13.1% of the vote, while Italy took third place on 9.2%.

Shelter Offshore recently described Spain as an "evergreen" destination for holidaymakers and property investors from the UK.
