Spanish airport expansion 'on track'
The expansion of a Spanish airport is proceeding according to plan, the government has confirmed.
Development minister Magdalena Alvarez stated that the construction of a new terminal at Malaga Airport was now 80% complete, the Typically Spanish website reports.
The facility, which is expected to be open in spring 2009, will make it possible for more flights to service the region, potentially boosting tourism and foreign investment.
In particular, the launch of new plane routes to Malaga will be likely to enhance its appeal as a location for overseas property investors.
The new terminal will cost more than 1 billion euros and will allow the airport to handle approximately 9,000 passengers every hour, twice the current amount.
This comes after Gatwick Airport highlighted Malaga as one of the most popular travel destinations during the recent school half-term.
According to figures from the portal, the Spanish region attracted the largest proportion of visitors during the week from Friday 19th October.
