Spanish buyers 'looking for long-term investment'

The recent economic turmoil has caused some property investors to change their attitude towards buying a home in Spain, it has been claimed.

Victor Sague, marketing director of house-building firm Taylor Woodrow de Espana, told Homes Worldwide that many prospective buyers now view Spanish property as a long-term investment rather than a short-term fix.

He explained that people looking to put their money in something more secure than financial markets are considering Spain, which remains a popular location for holidaymakers, second home owners and retirees from the UK.

"People are now moving away from the short-term view that property once was viewed as and are now looking at it as a long-term investment opportunity. After all, bricks and mortar is a tangible investment," Mr Sague said.

He added: "The continuing popularity of this country helps ensure that property purchased in Spain will always hold its value."

Recent data from airport operator BAA Scotland revealed that Spain was the most travelled-to destination for Scottish holidaymakers last year.
