Spanish government plans economy package
The Spanish government is putting the final touches to a plan which it hopes will boost its economy - and convince property investors of the viability of the Spanish market.
According to the country's prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the measures will have an impact over the next two years, Reuters reports.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Economist magazine, Mr Zapareto went on to reassure the European Union (EU) that Spain's disregard for its Stability Pact would be short-lived and had been only necessitated by the severity of the economic crisis.
It had previously been reported that Spain's budget deficit would be more than the 3% limit set by the EU.
Mr Zapareto said he was optimistic that the combination of his own government's efforts and the stimulus packages introduced by other countries would be enough to reignite the Spanish economy.
This eventuality would be welcomed by property market investors looking to secure healthy returns in uncertain times.
Mr Zapareto is leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party.
