Spanish property investments 'are not only the preserve of retirees'
Investment in the Spanish property market is no longer an attraction limited to the UK's older generation, new research has shown.
A survey by Banco Halifax Hispania found that 65% of Britons wanting to live overseas in Spain were under the age of 55 compared with just 22% of over 65 year olds.
The 35 to 44-year-old group marked the most popular portion of society with one in five wanting to live in Spain while more women (57%) than men (43&) found the idea attractive.
Commenting on the findings, Halifax European operations head Ian Smith said: "It has long been assumed that only retirees are buying property in Spain, but this is far from the case, as it is also a popular location amongst younger age groups."
Last week saw some experts criticise recent reports of a property market 'crash' in Spain, a view which Spanishpropertyinsight.com spokesperson Mark Stuckling said was "misleading" and "distorted".
Instead, the Spanish market is "much more subdued than it used to be", he added.
