Spanish property market has 'positive outlook'

Although concerns have been raised about the stability of Spanish real estate in recent months, one expert has claimed that the market's long-term prospects remain positive.

Laura Vergani, head of media relations at Barclays GRCB, said that although the number of Britons buying property in Spain simply for investment reasons has fallen, the number of people buying into the lifestyle the country offers has increased.

Many people are now looking to buy a home in Spain in order to spend time in the country and enjoy the quality of life, such as those wishing to retire abroad, Ms Vergani suggested.

"It's difficult to predict what investors will do but what we think is the long-term outlook for the property market is good," she remarked.

However, whether someone is searching for a new way of life abroad or they are interested in a pure investment, it is advisable to view a property purchase as a medium to long-term venture, she added.

Mark Bodega, marketing director of HiFX, recently urged those considering moving abroad to think about their currency requirements as soon as possible and to seek alternatives to high street banks for exchanging their money.
