Spanish province attracts lifestyle buyers

The property market in Alicante is holding up well in the face of Spain's economic downturn, a media outlet has revealed.

According to the Costa Blanca News, the province is still attracting lots of interest from foreign property buyers.

In fact, the newspaper said it is currently "well ahead" of other established hotspots, such as Malaga and Murcia, in terms of its popularity with overseas investors.

Much of the interest was said to be coming from lifestyle buyers, many of whom are looking to pack their bags and relocate on a permanent basis.

The Costa Blanca News commented: "A key factor is that the majority of property transactions involved expats already living in the area rather than those buying holiday homes."

This comes after currency specialist FC Exchange said recent price hikes by energy providers in Britain have led to a surge in the number of retirees enquiring about relocating to the sun.
