Spanish tourist officials 'aiming to attract Bulgarians'
Tourism officials in Spain are aiming to attract more visitors from eastern Europe, according to a media report.
The Sofia Echo stated that the Spanish Tourism Institute (STI) held promotional events in the Bulgarian capital in order to tempt locals to visit Spain for their holidays.
Representatives of various Spanish regions, such as Andalusia, Gran Canaria and Madrid, attended the promotion days which were held last week.
The STI collaborated with the Spanish Tourism Office on the initiative, which saw them relaying various facts and figures on the country's attributes and popularity with holidaymakers.
For example, they stated that Spain was the second-most popular holiday destination in the world, which was visited by more than 152,000 Bulgarians last year.
This is almost a third higher than the total number of visitors recorded in 2005, suggesting that Spain is still growing in popularity as a tourist and investment hotspot.
According to figures from Knight Frank, property prices in Spain have increased by 5% in the last year.
