Sports Personality explains Brazilian property investment
Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy has explained the reasons behind his recent investment in a new coastal property in Brazil.
The 32-year-old, who was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year at a ceremony in Liverpool last night (December 14th), has purchased a home in Tabatinga which he plans to use as a "private winter training camp".
Hoy told the Daily Mail that he is looking forward to spending some time in Brazil in preparation for his return to competition.
He also believes the property represents a sound investment, with the Brazilian housing market continuing to develop rapidly.
"Property in Brazil is booming, so I'm keen to get in while prices are still relatively cheap," the Edinburgh-born athlete said.
"I hope to get to Brazil about twice a year and each time spend a week on the road. The climate is perfect for winter cycling."
Hoy clinched three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in August, becoming the first Briton to win three golds in one Games since 1908.
He beat off competition from Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington to claim the Sports Personality award.
