State visit to fuel interest in eastern Europe

A state visit by the Queen to eastern Europe has been tipped to trigger a surge of interest in the region among prospective visitors.

According to Skyscanner, countries such as Romania have attracted a greater number of online searches over the last few months.

The search engine believes this trend will continue in the wake of the British monarch's visit earlier this month.

Commenting on this development, business development director Barry Smith said: "They offer everything that western Europe does, but they also have an exotic appeal and they’re better value for money."

He highlighted the region's natural beauty as one of its main attractions, along with its good food, beaches and leisure activities such as skiing.

Mr Smith added that destinations such as Bucharest also offer lots of cultural points of interest and an "excellent" nightlife.

This comes after an adviser to the Romanian government hailed the performance of its economy amid the current financial turmoil.

Rasvan Orasanu told Reuters that the market in the eastern European country is "buoyant" and proving to be highly resilient to external problems.
