Sun and beach nations 'contribute to strong real estate market'

Countries renowned for their good weather and beaches, such as Brazil and Morocco, are among those helping Europe maintain a healthy real estate market, it has been reported.

According to a report in the International Herald Tribune, the two aforementioned nations are some of the leading nations in that regard.

"It looks as if the world of resort real estate and second homes is opening up completely," said Maurice Elst, managing director of International Realty Group, an affiliate of Portugal-based Christie's Great Estates.

He suggested that the countries contributing to this, in addition to Brazil and Morocco, include the former's South American neighbour Argentina, as well as Bulgaria and Croatia.

Bernardo Trindade, secretary of state for tourism in Portugal, also told the publication that his country wants to establish itself as somewhere tourists visit and then return to buy investment property.

The Mirror reports that Portugal remains one of the most popular destinations for Britons buying second homes, alongside France and Spain.
