Tourists drawn to Barcelona's tourist attractions
An increasing number of British tourists are visiting cultural attractions in Barcelona, according to a travel agency.
Holidays-Direct said that attractions such as museums and galleries in the Spanish city were proving to be highly popular among holidaymakers.
Neil Smilie, head of the company, highlighted the Picasso Museum, Las Ramblas and the National Art Museum of Catalonia as especially popular destinations.
He commented: "Barcelona is often described as one big, open air museum."
Mr Smilie added that the city was also popular with shoppers due to its range of boutiques, markets and contemporary stores.
In addition, he said sports fans enjoyed visiting Barcelona because of its sporting heritage and famous stadiums such as the Nou Camp.
The comments come on the day that budget airline easyJet stated that Barcelona was the most popular destination among those flying abroad for the August Bank Holiday.
More than 700,000 Britons were said to be flying with the carrier this weekend.
