Tourists head abroad by train

People who are heading overseas are increasingly choosing to travel by rail, according to experts.

Virgin Trains stated that while rail travel cannot offer transit over the sea, development such as the Channel Tunnel have made it a viable means of heading to places in mainland Europe.

Communications manager Philippa Richardson said more and more people are using the Eurostar to reach places they would previously have visited by plane or car.

She continued: "Rail networks around Europe are well-used.

"People will certainly look at the option of going by rail in a favourable light."

According to currency specialist HiFX, a growing number of Britons are looking at living in France and commuting to work in the UK.

This is because the new high-speed rail link from Paris to London has reduced journey times between the two cities, which means that commuting from one to the other is now a viable option.
