Tourists still flocking to France
Paris is still an attractive destination for holidaymakers from all over the world and the city's tourist board expects the trend to continue.
Despite a significant drop in the number of visitors from the US, the City of Light has seen UK holidaymakers flood into the capital, overtaking America as the primary foreign client, reports Business Week.
The overall number of vacationers travelling to the French capital increased by 2.2 per cent to 17.3 million in the first half of 2008, prompting Jean-Claude Lesourd, president of the tourism office, to state: "Paris is doing very well. 2008 will be a very good year - as good as last year, and perhaps even better."
While some tourists struggle with the strengthening of the euro, hotels in Paris have still been able to raise prices by an average of 6.4 per cent, such is the demand for holiday accomodation.
France is currently the second favourite location for Britons looking for properties abroad, according to an Association of International Property Professionals report, with only Spain proving a more popular option.
