Travel industry 'is resilient'

Consumers from the UK are unlikely to give up travelling abroad, despite the deepening economic crisis, an expert has said.

Malcolm Preston, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, stated that the tourism industry is unlikely to see a decline next year, reports TravelMole.

This, he said, is because British people are not willing to make sacrifices such as going without a holiday.

Indeed, he cited research showing that less than 1 in 10 consumers would be prepared to give up travelling altogether.

Mr Preston commented: "There are many things that will go before that, which backs up our feeling that the industry is pretty resilient."

He added that many consumers are already booking their holidays for next year in order to beat possible price increases.

According to research commissioned by the Association of British Travel Agents, 83% of those who have been abroad recently will again head overseas in the next year.
