Travel to Europe 'expensive during school holidays'

People who are planning a trip to Europe during the school holidays have been advised to consider the impact the timing will have on the overall cost.

Holiday Lettings stated that countries such as France and Italy were among the most popular destinations during the half-term, easter and Christmas breaks.

The volume of demand for flights to these countries was said to have been reflected in the price, making school holidays the most expensive time to travel.

Although traditional European holidays were named as the main tourist destinations, other markets were also found to have attracted strong interest from British consumers.

For example, Holiday Lettings cited Croatia as a country that was proving to be highly popular with both leisure travellers and overseas property investors.

The firm said it has "recovered magnificently" from the break-up of Yugoslavia, which occurred in the early 1990s.
