Travelling abroad 'easier than holidaying in UK'

Travelling overseas can be much easier than heading to other parts of the UK, an expert has stated.

According to Elizabeth Young, editor of the Travel for Kids guide, said the cost of flying abroad has come down significantly in recent years.

As a result, many youngsters from the UK have never been to a British beach and are more familiar with foreign tourist destinations.

Ms Young commented: "It's easy and cheap to go abroad.

"With inexpensive airlines, families can plan a weekend [overseas] more easily than having to drive to the beach in the UK."

She added that traditional European holiday destinations, such as Italy and Spain, are still very popular with British holidaymakers.

France was also highlighted as one of the main hotspots for families, partly because it easily accessible by train.

A high-speed rail link between London's St Pancras station and Paris was introduced by Eurostar in November last year.
