Turkey 'becoming popular with golfers'
Turkey is set to become an increasingly popular destination among golfers, according to new research.
A study by accountancy firm KPMG found that traditional markets for golf fans such as Spain and Portugal were facing growing competition from other countries.
The majority of tour operators and golf course architects surveyed by the company predicted that Turkey would experience future growth in the next few years as a result of its increased popularity with golfers.
This could prove to be a significant boost to Turkey's travel industry, as well as a factor that boosts its appeal to overseas property investors.
Andrea Sartori, spokesperson for KPMG, told Travel Daily News: "The golf industry as a whole is likely to benefit from the continued growth of the broader travel and tourism industry."
She added that she expected established markets such as Spain and Portugal would also continue to grow in terms of their popularity with golfers, despite the competition from emerging golf destinations.
This comes after Portugal's Algarve region was praised by David Brice of Golf International, who told PGATour.com that it offered world-class facilities to fans of the sport.
