Turkey continues to attract foreign visitors

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey is attracting a growing number of visitors, according to local media.

The Turkish Daily News stated that more than 2.6 million holidaymakers travelled to Mugla between January and November.

This is 9% higher than the figure recorded during the same period of 2006 and indicates that the country's popularity among leisure travellers is continuing to grow.

Official figures cited by the newspaper showed that more than a million of the visitors to Mugla were English, while 239,000 came from the Netherlands.

The region was also found to be especially popular among Belgian and Russian holidaymakers.

This follows a report in the Turkish Press which revealed that throughout the year to date, Istanbul has received more than 6 million foreign arrivals.

During the same period of the previous year, almost 5 million international travellers chose to visit the city.
