Turkey offers escape from strong euro
Britons who are feeling the effects of the ongoing problems in the global economy have been advised to visit a cheaper holiday destination.
According to the Guardian, the credit crunch and the strong euro has resulted in some people opting to cancel their holidays altogether.
However, the publication stated that some may not need to take such a drastic course of action as some locations still offer favourable exchange rates.
For example, Turkey was said to offer a wide range of attractions at highly affordable prices.
The newspaper commented: "Large stretches of the south coast are a bargain bagger's bliss, offering the obscenely blue waters and startling scenery for a much lower premium."
This, it added, could make it a good alternative to places such as Spain, Greece and France, which were said to be "more expensive than ever".
According to John Bevan of Lastminute.com, the continuing financial crisis has contributed to a surge in the popularity of Turkey.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he stated that Turkey is now its top destination, whereas it usually occupies fourth or fifth place behind places like Spain.
