Turkey 'offers good value'
Turkey's status as a budget-friendly holiday destination is driving the country's increase in popularity, it has been claimed.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, said that Turkey has become a "good value option" for UK holidaymakers looking to save money.
Speaking about the impact of the credit crunch on the travel industry, she claimed that many Britons will choose to "safeguard" one main holiday in 2009, with Turkey a likely destination.
"We do know that the euro and the dollar rates are going to really affect people's choices about where they go," Ms Tuke said.
"Turkey and Egypt are seeming to do quite well for next year, as they seem to be quite good value options."
The Turkish tourism board is already expecting a boost in visitor numbers for 2010, when Istanbul will be European Capital of Culture.
