Turkey recommended to British tourists
British holidaymakers who want to avoid eurozone countries have been advised to take a break in Turkey.
According to the Times, the pound has slumped in value against the euro by 18 per cent during the last year.
This means that people from the UK will not be able to get as much for their money in countries such as France, Spain and Portugal.
As a result, the newspaper has suggested that consumers consider alternative destinations which offer more favourable exchange rates.
Turkey was highlighted as one suitable option, since it offers similar attractions to its neighbouring European countries.
Commenting on the location, the Times said: "Turkey looks the favourite if you can't bear to forgo your annual dose of Mediterranean sunshine."
The newspaper added that the country's beaches are as good as those in other parts of Europe, while it also offers guaranteed sunshine.
According to John Bevan of Lastminute.com, the continuing financial crisis has contributed to a surge in the popularity of Turkey.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he stated that Turkey is now its top destination, whereas it usually occupies fourth or fifth place behind places like Spain.
