Turkey registers an increase in tourism

Turkey saw in increase the number of tourists visiting the country in October, reports Reuters.

Figures released from the Tourism Ministry of Turkey revealed an increase of 6.82% year-on-year for October.

The news provider also reported that the total number of tourists for the first ten months of the year rose by almost 2%.

Over two million Brits visit Turkey every year, according to figures from the UK Foreign Office. Tourism is a valuable industry to the country, particularly in the coastal regions, although it only counts for 3% of gross domestic product.

International visitors are an important source of foreign currency for Turkey. The position of the lira against the pound has provided investors with great opportunities for investment, particularly in property.

Russia, the UK and Germany are Turkey's top three tourism markets.

The Turkish real estate market has recently shown signs of improvement. This coupled with Istanbul's title as the 2010 European capital of culture suggests that now is the ideal time to invest in overseas property in Turkey.
