Turkey 'remains popular' among Brits

Turkey continues to be a popular tourist destination for Britons, it has been found.

According to Marks & Spencer (M&S), the Turkish lira was the third highest selling currency in the second and third quarters of the year, trailing only the euro and the US dollar.

Manager at M&S Travel Money James Yerkess explained that sterling's weakness against the euro has prompted many people to look to holiday destinations outside the eurozone, which could benefit those who have invested in buy-to-let property in Turkey.

And owners may see demand increase further this year, as the firm recommended the country as a half-term destination for families.

"The Turkish lira is one of the few currencies against which the pound has held its value since last year, meaning tourists heading to Turkey will still see their cash go further," said Mr Yerkess.

Research company RNCOS recently predicted a growth in tourism levels for Turkey, with the country's 10 golf courses already attracting large numbers of foreign visitors.
