Turkish airports to be reopened
Growing demand for travel to Turkey has prompted local authorities to start reopening defunct airports.
According to Today's Zaman, facilities that are currently out of use will be available to international air traffic later this year.
Orhan Birdal, the head of the State Airports Management General Directorate, told the newspaper that the work to reopen Sinop airport was already underway.
He commented: "Many airports are capable of efficiently serving not only their provinces, but also neighbouring provinces."
Mr Birdal added that in the last four years, the annual number of people air passengers in Turkey has gone from 35 million to 70 million.
This was attributed to the increased affordability of air travel, as well as the influx of extra airlines operating in the market.
Turkey's aviation sector is already set to benefit from the creation of a new airport in Gazipasa, which should open up the south of the country to foreign leisure travellers and investors.
