Turkish tourism sector 'in good health'
Tourism officials in Turkey are confident that 2009 will prove to be another year of expansion.
The country has experienced a 14% increase in foreign visitor numbers this year, with Turkish resorts benefiting from the favourable exchange rates for UK-based travellers.
Kerim Cavusoglu, president of the Turkish Association of Travel Agents, told Today's Zaman that the early signs for next year are also positive for the nation's tourism industry.
"We are encouraged with the positive developments in the sector," he commented.
"Turkey is adventurous in many areas compared to its rivals in the tourism sector
Most important of all, the foreign tourists can find services with cheaper prices here."
Resorts such as Antalya have been boosted by an influx of visitors from Europe seeking a budget-friendly holiday destination.
Turkey's international profile is set to increase further in 2010, when the capital Istanbul is designated a European Capital of Culture.
