Turkish tourism set to grow
Turkey is set to attract a greater number of visitors this year, according to an official in the travel industry.
Timur Bayindir, chairman of the Turkish Hoteliers' Association, stated that the country's tourist sector had performed strongly during 2007.
Speaking to Today's Zaman, he predicted that this trend of positive growth would continue and that this year would be "even more successful".
Mr Bayindir commented: "All in all, Turkey is organised well and we look optimistically at the year ahead of us."
However, he called for further infrastructure improvements in order to handle the additional number of visitors, as well as the introduction of more regular flights.
This could significantly boost the accessibility of the country and make it a more viable destination to foreign leisure travellers and property buyers.
According to figures from the UN World Tourism Organisation, visitor numbers in Turkey rose by almost a fifth last year.
