Turkish tourist hotspot attracts more visitors
The number of air passengers arriving in the Turkish city of Antalya has gone up this year, official figures have revealed.
According to the Antalya Culture and Tourism Directorate, passenger numbers in April were 17 per cent up on the same period of 2007, reports Today's Zaman.
Statistics showed that more than 500,000 people visited the city last month, bringing the total for the year to date to 1.13 million.
Officials believe that the overall number of people Turkey attracts this year could be the highest figure on record.
This will be a positive development for owners of property in the country, particularly buy-to-let investors who have lodgings aimed at the tourist market.
The release of the figures comes after the Europe-Turkey Tourism Business Council revealed that Antalya attracted more visitors than any other city on the Mediterranean coastline last year.
Huseyin Baraner, chairman of the organisation, told the Turkish Press that it has become "the shining star of Europe".
