UK tourists 'getting more adventurous'

British leisure travellers are becoming more and more adventurous, a travel industry expert has revealed.

Claire Lilley, head of research at Holiday Which? magazine, stated that people from the UK were increasingly choosing to visit different countries in order to sample new experiences.

She said that less-established places were becoming especially popular destinations, particularly those in eastern Europe.

Ms Lilley commented: "Places like Bulgaria and Turkey are on the agenda a lot more."

She added that since people were now travelling abroad about three or four times a year, they wanted to do more than lie on a beach for the whole time.

More active pursuits such as horse riding were highlighted as popular holiday activities, along with skydiving and bungee jumping.

According to figures from the Association of British Travel Agents, people from the UK took almost 70 million trips abroad last year.
